Bathroom Window Treatments

Bathroom window treatments: privacy, daylight, and steam twice a day.

A bathroom window is the one that needs privacy every minute and daylight every morning, in a room that fogs up twice a day. The answer is a material that does not care about water and an operation that opens the top. AquaShield™ waterproof shutters, faux wood and aluminum blinds, and polyester honeycomb shades, installed by PAPABLINDS across the Greater Seattle Area.

Wet zone or near it?

The shower and the tub decide the material. A window inside the spray needs waterproof; a window across the room needs moisture resistant.

Privacy with the light still on.

A bathroom window is usually small and high. The trick is covering the part people can see through and leaving the rest open.

Top down

The honeycomb shade lowers from the top: daylight and sky above, privacy at eye level. The everyday setting for most bathroom windows.

Louvers tilted up

Shutter louvers or blind slats angled up bounce light off the ceiling and block the line of sight from outside.

Why wood loses in a Seattle bathroom.

A bathroom in a wet climate never fully dries out between showers. Wood and wood-composite products swell, stick, and eventually warp; painted finishes lift at the joints. AquaShield™ is Norman’s answer for the wet zone: a waterproof ABS construction with corrosion-resistant hardware, in the same louver sizes and whites as the shutters in the rest of the house.

Across the room, where the window gets steam but not spray, faux wood and aluminum blinds do the job at a lower price, and a polyester honeycomb shade adds a softer look with the top-down option that bathrooms need.

  • AquaShield™ in the shower and over the tub.
  • Faux wood or aluminum blinds where there is steam but no spray.
  • Polyester honeycomb, top-down bottom-up, on the bathroom with a view.
  • Everything wipes down; nothing swells.

Bathroom questions.

Can I put shutters in the shower?

AquaShield™, yes. It is built for water: waterproof construction and hardware that does not corrode. Woodlore® and Normandy® stay outside the wet zone.

What about fabric shades in a bathroom?

Polyester honeycomb and roller fabrics handle steam and wipe clean. Linen, cotton blends, and silk do not belong in a bathroom, and we say so at the visit.

How do I get privacy without losing the light?

Top-down bottom-up honeycomb, or louvers and slats tilted up. Both cover the line of sight and leave the top of the window open.

Will the blinds rust?

CityLights™ aluminum and Ultimate™ faux wood are made for humid rooms. AquaShield™ hardware is corrosion resistant. Keep real wood out of the bathroom and nothing rusts or warps.

Bathroom window treatments in the Seattle area

PAPABLINDS installs bathroom blinds, shades, and shutters in Seattle, Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, and the surrounding communities. In a bathroom the material comes first: Norman® AquaShield™ waterproof shutters in the shower and over the tub, Ultimate™ faux wood and CityLights™ aluminum blinds where there is steam but no spray, and Portrait™ honeycomb shades in polyester fabrics with the top-down bottom-up option for windows with a view. Real wood and natural fabrics stay out.

Privacy and light at the same time

Most bathroom windows are small, high, and close to a neighbor. A top-down honeycomb shade covers the part of the window at eye level and leaves the sky open; shutter louvers and blind slats tilted upward do the same with a harder line. Both keep the room bright at seven in the morning without anyone seeing in.

What to have ready for the visit

  • Whether the window is inside the shower or tub area, or across the room from it.
  • Whether the window faces a neighbor, a street, or a yard.
  • The whites of the tile and the trim, so the shutter or blind matches.

Request a free in-home visit and we will bring an AquaShield™ sample and a polyester honeycomb swatch to the bathroom.
