A kitchen wants daylight on the work surface all day and no glare on the screen you are reading the recipe from. Tilting slats do this best: faux wood or aluminum blinds angled up put the light on the ceiling and the counter, and close for privacy after dark. A solar roller shade does the same on a bright window without hiding the yard.

Wood or faux wood in the kitchen?
Faux wood. It looks the same from across the room, does not warp in steam, and wipes clean. Real wood goes in the dining room next door if you want the grain.
How do I open the blind over the sink?
A tilt wand handles the slats from the counter edge. For lift, an AutoWand™ or a motor means you never lean over the faucet.
Do shutters work in a kitchen?
Woodlore® Plus, yes: it resists heat and moisture and wipes down. Keep it out of the spray zone behind the sink unless you choose AquaShield™.
Can I keep the view and cut the glare?
A solar roller shade does exactly that: the screen fabric cuts glare and heat and you still see the yard.
