Waterproof Shutters

Waterproof shutters for bathrooms, showers, kitchens, and laundry rooms.

A window inside a shower, above a tub, or over a kitchen sink needs a shutter that does not care about water. AquaShield™ is built for exactly that, and PAPABLINDS installs it across Seattle, Bellevue, Kirkland, and Redmond.

Why ordinary shutters lose to moisture.

Wood swells and the paint lifts. Composite holds its shape, but ordinary steel hardware still rusts. A Seattle bathroom that runs a hot shower twice a day through a wet winter gives a window more water than most exterior trim ever sees.

AquaShield™ is Norman’s answer: a lightweight ABS copolymer, the same impact-resistant material used in automobile parts and kitchen appliances, in a 100% waterproof construction with corrosion-resistant hardware. It can be installed inside the shower itself.

  • 100% waterproof construction, inside showers included.
  • Corrosion-resistant hardware engineered to resist rust.
  • 24 standard colors plus custom color: whites, neutrals, and darks.
  • Louvers in 2 1/2, 3, 3 1/2, and 4 1/2 inches; wide panel design; InvisibleTilt®.

Which shutter belongs in a wet room?

A quick guide before the visit. The final call depends on how wet the window actually gets and how well the room vents.

What we check at the visit.

Bathroom windows are small, but they are the least forgiving windows in the house. Five things decide the order.

  • Is the window inside the wet zone or only near it? That decides AquaShield versus composite.
  • Tile depth, and whether the frame mounts to tile, drywall, or the window jamb.
  • The vent fan and how fast the room dries after a shower.
  • Privacy: frosted glass, louver angle, or split tilt for a window that faces a neighbor.
  • Existing caulk lines and the condition of the window itself before anything is mounted to it.

Waterproof shutter questions.

Can waterproof shutters go directly inside a shower?

Yes. AquaShield is built for windows inside the shower or tub surround. The panel and the hardware handle direct spray; we still confirm the mounting surface and clearance at the visit.

Do they look like plastic?

No. AquaShield uses the same louver material as Woodlore Plus and the same frame styles, so it matches the composite shutters in the rest of the house.

Will mold grow behind the panel?

The panel itself does not absorb water. Ventilation matters for the window and the wall, as it does with no covering at all. A working fan and louvers left open after showers keep the reveal dry.

Is it more expensive than composite?

It sits close to Woodlore Plus. Because bathroom windows are usually small, the difference on a single window is modest.

Waterproof shutters for Seattle bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms

A bathroom window in the Puget Sound area works harder than most: hot showers through a wet winter, slow drying, and often a neighbor’s window a few feet away. AquaShield™ shutters are 100% waterproof with corrosion-resistant hardware, so they can be mounted inside a shower or tub surround, and their louvers give privacy without giving up daylight. PAPABLINDS measures and installs them in Seattle, Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, and nearby communities.

Privacy on a shower window

Most shower windows face a side yard or a neighbor. Louvers solve that better than frosted glass: tilt them up for light and privacy at the same time, or open them fully to vent the room after a shower. Split tilt keeps the lower section closed while the top lets light in.

Kitchen and laundry windows

The window over a kitchen sink takes splashes and dishwasher steam; a laundry room takes dryer humidity. Both are candidates for AquaShield™, though a composite Woodlore® shutter often works when the window sits well back from the water. We decide at the visit by looking at where the water actually lands.

Cleaning

  • Wipe with a damp cloth or rinse; the panel does not absorb water and the hardware does not rust.
  • Leave the louvers open after showers so the window reveal dries.
  • Keep the vent fan running the way you would with any window covering.

Ask for AquaShield™ samples at a free in-home visit. We check the tile, the mounting surface, and the fan while we are there.
