Kirkland, Washington

Blinds, shades, and shutters in Kirkland, with the lake in mind.

Kirkland faces west across Lake Washington from Houghton to Juanita, which means sunsets through the living room and glare from three o’clock on. Finn Hill and Kingsgate sit under the trees; Totem Lake and downtown are filling with townhomes. PAPABLINDS brings Norman® samples to your house, measures every window, and installs the order.

Kirkland homes, window by window.

The lakefront and the slopes above it, from Houghton through downtown to Juanita, get the low western sun for hours every clear afternoon. A solar roller shade keeps the water in view and takes the glare and heat out; PerfectSheer™ does it with a softer look and vanes that tilt. Both are the first things we hold up to a west window here.

Away from the lake the picture changes. Finn Hill, Kingsgate, and the older parts of Juanita are 1960s to 1980s houses under tall firs, dim in winter and private already, where light-filtering honeycomb and top-down shades keep the rooms bright. Totem Lake, Rose Hill, and downtown have newer townhomes and condos with tall narrow windows and a neighbor a few feet away: privacy at eye level and daylight above.

  • Solar and sheer shades on west-facing lake windows.
  • Light-filtering fabrics under the Finn Hill and Kingsgate trees.
  • Top-down bottom-up on townhome windows with a close neighbor.
  • Shutters on the Houghton and Market Street houses that want the built-in look.

How a visit works in Kirkland.

The same four steps on one bathroom window and on a whole house.

  • 1Request a visitSend the form or call. We agree a time and ask which rooms and windows you want to cover, so we bring the right samples.
  • 2Samples in your roomsShutters, blinds, and shades in real materials, held against your own windows in your own light. Colors are matched to your trim and floors on the spot.
  • 3Measured by usEvery window is measured by the person who will install it: frame depth, reveal, handles, and how the window opens. The order matches the window, not an estimate.
  • 4Installed and walked throughInstallation is finished cleanly, and you get a walkthrough of tilt, lift, or motorized operation before we leave.

Kirkland questions.

Is the in-home visit in Kirkland really free?

Yes. The visit, the samples, and the measurement are free, and the quote is written for your windows, not from a price list.

Who measures and who installs?

PAPABLINDS does both. One company from the first visit to the final walkthrough, so nothing is lost between a salesperson and an installer.

My living room faces the lake and the sun is brutal at four. What do you recommend?

A solar roller shade in a 3 to 5 percent openness: the glare and most of the heat go and the view stays. For night privacy add a room-darkening layer in a dual shade or choose PerfectSheer™.

Do you come up to Finn Hill and Kingsgate?

Yes, all of Kirkland including Finn Hill, Kingsgate, and Juanita. For Kenmore, mention the address when you request a visit and we confirm.

What brands do you install?

Norman® shutters, blinds, and shades: Woodlore®, Woodlore® Plus, AquaShield™, and Normandy® shutters; Ultimate™ faux wood, Normandy® wood, Synchrony™ vertical, and CityLights™ aluminum blinds; Portrait™ honeycomb, Soluna™ roller, Centerpiece™ Roman, PerfectSheer™, SmartFold™, and SmartDrape™ shades.

Homes in Kirkland

Kirkland is a west-facing city: the lake side gets the sunset through the living room every clear afternoon, which is why solar and sheer shades come first here. Under the trees of Finn Hill and Kingsgate the problem reverses and light-filtering fabrics keep winter rooms bright, while the newer townhomes of Totem Lake and Rose Hill need privacy at eye level from a close neighbor.

What to have ready for the visit

  • Which windows face the lake and when the glare arrives.
  • The age of the house, since the 1960s frames want outside mounts.
  • Whether the room needs privacy at night, which a solar shade alone does not give.
