Sammamish, Washington

Blinds, shades, and shutters in Sammamish, for houses built around big windows.

Sammamish is a plateau of two-story houses from the 1980s through the 2010s, with great rooms, window walls, and clerestory rows, under some of the tallest trees on the Eastside. Dim in December, bright in July. PAPABLINDS brings Norman® samples to your house, measures every window, and installs the order.

Sammamish homes, window by window.

Almost every Sammamish house has the same two features: a two-story great room with a wall of glass and a row of windows nobody can reach, and a stand of Douglas firs that shades the house all summer and makes it dark by three in a December afternoon. The order that follows is motorized shades on the clerestory row in the same fabric as the cordless shades below, and light-filtering fabrics rather than room darkening in the living spaces, because the trees already do the darkening.

The exceptions are the bedrooms and the bonus room. Bedrooms facing the morning sun want room-darkening honeycomb with side channels, and a bonus room over the garage with a west window wants a solar shade on a schedule. Klahanie, Trossachs, Pine Lake, and Beaver Lake all follow this pattern; the older Sahalee and Timberline streets add larger lots and some 1970s windows.

  • Motorized clerestory rows in the same fabric as the cordless row below.
  • Light-filtering fabrics in living spaces under the trees.
  • Room-darkening honeycomb with side channels in bedrooms.
  • SmartDrape™ or track shutters on the slider to the deck.

How a visit works in Sammamish.

The same four steps on one bathroom window and on a whole house.

  • 1Request a visitSend the form or call. We agree a time and ask which rooms and windows you want to cover, so we bring the right samples.
  • 2Samples in your roomsShutters, blinds, and shades in real materials, held against your own windows in your own light. Colors are matched to your trim and floors on the spot.
  • 3Measured by usEvery window is measured by the person who will install it: frame depth, reveal, handles, and how the window opens. The order matches the window, not an estimate.
  • 4Installed and walked throughInstallation is finished cleanly, and you get a walkthrough of tilt, lift, or motorized operation before we leave.

Sammamish questions.

Is the in-home visit in Sammamish really free?

Yes. The visit, the samples, and the measurement are free, and the quote is written for your windows, not from a price list.

Who measures and who installs?

PAPABLINDS does both. One company from the first visit to the final walkthrough, so nothing is lost between a salesperson and an installer.

Our great room windows are 18 feet up. How do you cover them?

Motorized shades, charged from the floor with the wand on its extension pole or plugged in with an adapter where there is an outlet. Same fabric as the reachable row so the wall reads as one. See high windows.

The house is already dark under the trees. Should I skip coverings?

Skip blackout in the living spaces, not coverings. Light-filtering fabrics give privacy and soften the glare on the few bright days without making winter darker.

What brands do you install?

Norman® shutters, blinds, and shades: Woodlore®, Woodlore® Plus, AquaShield™, and Normandy® shutters; Ultimate™ faux wood, Normandy® wood, Synchrony™ vertical, and CityLights™ aluminum blinds; Portrait™ honeycomb, Soluna™ roller, Centerpiece™ Roman, PerfectSheer™, SmartFold™, and SmartDrape™ shades.

Homes in Sammamish

Sammamish houses are built around big glass: two-story great rooms with clerestory rows, sliders to the deck, and bonus rooms over the garage, all under tall firs. The standard order here is a motorized upper row in the same fabric as the cordless row below, light-filtering fabrics in the living spaces because the trees already darken the house, and room-darkening honeycomb with side channels in the bedrooms.

What to have ready for the visit

  • Whether the great room has a clerestory row and how high it is.
  • Which bedrooms face the morning sun.
  • The slider to the deck, and whether the living room will have shutters.
